increased prices of many goods,

foods

clothes

bus fares

cinema

This has influenced the social life of many teenagers and young people. They may feel as though they are limited from certain things due to less money. This has began from the lack of jobs available. Many are not being employed (especially from the BRG areas) and many are losing their jobs, cars and even homes.

As a solution, we must all realise that money does not grow on trees! We should try to save and not waste money.

Perhaps rent a DVD and watch it at home.

Or sign up for training courses to get experienced, ready for employment

Buy cheaper products, don’t always go for the expensive option!! (TRY THE DOCKS SHOPS LOL)

Students have also wanted to say a big thank you to the Local Education Authority for giving over 16’s who are still in education motivation - EMA! ox

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, known internationally as The International Award for Young People, offers a way to improve yourself, your CV, and your prospects while having fun. The Award will teach you how to work as part of a team. You’ll learn things about yourself you never suspected, discover resources and reserves you never knew you had.

You will gain new skills and interests, and make new friends. You’ll have something to put in your CV and mention in interviews. But most importantly, you’ll enjoy yourself. You’ll have a laugh. And hopefully, afterwards, you’ll be able to say you’re glad you took part.

A Bronze DofE programme has 4 sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition. You need be at least 14 years old to start a Bronze programme and you must do a minimum of 3 months activity for each of the Volunteering, Physical and Skills sections, and plan, train for and do a 2 day (1 night) Expedition.

You also have to spend an extra three months on one of the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections. It’s your choice which one and, though you can change your mind later, you should decide which section you want to do for longer at the beginning. Knowing how long you’re going to do it for will help you to set your aims for the sections.

This table shows what you need to do:
